Looking at Light
When I first thought about the project I was drawn to the notion of light peering out from behind something. I wanted to explore the possibilities of manipulating light to make it appear as if it is peering out.
My original inspiration came from the notion of the way sunlight is dispersed and diffused through clouds.

Back to Basics
For this assignment we were given the task to design a 4x4 cube and connect it to a 8x8 base using straws. When I began I new I wanted to keep it simple using only linear lines. To start with I wanted to make a cube that was somehow interlocking. I also new that I wanted a smaller base above the 8in base to add to the aesthetic elements as well as cover up the joints of the straws and the base. After my first attempt I was left with was is in the image to the right. After an individual critique and giving it some more thought I wanted to simplify the project even more as well as Polish my craft. I completely changed my cube by eliminating the interlocking aspect of it and making 4 strait flush edges. I felt like black straws really contrasted the white bristol board and foam core base. I feel like if I stuck a light bulb inside my cube it would make for a really nice lamp.

Nature Connected
For this assignment we were told to connect two items from nature using sting, wire or thread. Originally I used a brick and a vine and combined the two by intertwining the vine around the brick. After bringing it to the critique and giving it a bit more thought I decided to take a different approach to the project.
The idea for this project originally came from the movie "Lion King" when the main character Simba was born and held up high for all of the pride to see. I thought it would be interesting to recreate that moment using items from nature. Using a large rock as a base, and a smaller one to be displayed I connected the two using aluminum and copper wire. As you can see I coiled the wires together leaving a gap in the center to sit on top of the big rock and for prongs at the top to hold the smaller rock.
TIme
In this project I was hesitant as to what I wanted my Item to be. I had came up with many ideas for what my container should look like. Each time I would come up with a new idea for my container, It seemed that I naturally wanted to always place the object in the center. After realizing this I decided that I wanted to use my watch as a special item to represent time. My concept in this project was to "showcase" or celebrate time. For the first run i sewed my paper and fabric to foam core and super glued the edges. In the second try I wanted to take away the elements of the container that distracted form the main concept of the project which is time. so instead of using a stand to hold the watch I made a round platform to wrap the watch on to.
